Where is Hepatitis A Found?
Due to the mass gatherings to places such as Hajj and Umrah there are unique health risks associated with these visits. Early summer each year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health issues the requirements and recommendations for entry visas required to visit pilgrims and seasonal workers who intend to visit KSA during Hajj and Umrah season.
Meningococcal ACWY vaccines are recommended or required for travel, once vaccinated Hayshine will issue the Universally recognised ACWY vaccination certificate. The MenACWY vaccine is used as a travel vaccine for travellers attending the Hajj and those visiting countries with a higher incidence of meningococcal disease, such as parts of Africa and Latin America.
How can I protect myself from Meningitis ACWY
The most effective way to protect yourself is through vaccination. The Men ACWY vaccine is given as a single injection in the upper arm and provides protection against four strains of meningococcal bacteria: A, C, W and Y.
The vaccine is recommended for travellers visiting higher risk areas, particularly parts of sub Saharan Africa, and is mandatory for those attending Hajj or Umrah in Saudi Arabia.
What not to do in prevalent countries:
Do not share drinks, utensils or cigarettes
Avoid close contact with anyone who is unwell
Avoid crowded gatherings during known outbreaks
Common Symptoms of Meningitis ACWY
Meningococcal infection can develop quickly and may become life threatening, so urgent medical attention is essential if symptoms appear.
Neck stiffness & Soreness
A Sudden High Fever
Confusion or Drowsiness
Non fading rash when pressed
Severe ongoing headache
Nausea or Vomiting
Together, against Meningitis
“Fresher” students going to university for the first time should make sure they’ve had the MenACWY and MenB vaccine to prevent meningitis and septicaemia, which can be deadly.
Meningococcal B is another strain of bacteria that can cause Meningitis, it is not included in the MenACWY vaccine but has now been included in the National vaccination programme since late 2015, any children/adults born prior to 2015 may wish to include this vaccination, especially young adults as the Disease has been back on the rise from 2021.
Additional Information
The Men ACWY vaccine is given as a single dose, with protection lasting around five years and no routine booster required. Meningitis is inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord and can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, including meningococcal disease.
