Emergency Prescriptions When You Need Them Most
If you have run out of a regular prescribed medicine and cannot get to your GP, your first step is to contact NHS 111 online or by phone. Where appropriate, they will refer you directly to a local pharmacy like Newton Place to receive an emergency supply without needing a GP appointment.

Once you arrive, one of our qualified pharmacists will go through your situation, confirm your medication details and check your eligibility. Where it is clinically appropriate, we will supply enough medication to bridge the gap until you can get back to your GP. If an emergency supply is not possible, we will make sure you know exactly where to turn next, whether that is your GP, an out of hours service or urgent care.
Is an Emergency Prescription Free?
It depends on your circumstances. Some patients will receive their medication at no charge, for example if they already qualify for free NHS prescriptions or have been referred through NHS 111.
Others may need to pay where the supply is made outside of the NHS referral pathway. Your pharmacist will walk you through exactly what applies to your situation before anything is dispensed, so there are no surprises.
